Dear Visitor,
Mr. Alan Jones contacted me earlier this year and inquired about building a website, one where he could post his credentials as a teacher and feature the school projects or clubs he was actively involved with. I gladly agreed, and we began to work. Together we constructed his online presence and we were excited when it was finally completed. The website had only been completed for roughly a month at the time of this post.
However, Mr. Jones passed away May 14th, 2007. This deeply saddening news shocked the entire Shanghai American School community, for he was loved and respected as a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. He was always there for us, and we are sorry we were not there for him when he needed us.
This website was to serve as his online portfolio and will remain as long as possible to showcase his devotion and dedication to his teaching career. We are grief stricken from the loss of such a great figure. Countless students and colleagues that have known Mr. Jones are heart broken, and they express it better than I can, here are a few things they said:
"No one can replace him" - Charlie Gao, Student
"I'll miss him for who he was" - Mark Wan, Student
"You didn't have to be his student to learn, all you needed to do was to talk to him" - Robert Wang, Student
"Mr. Jones taught me to be strong when I was weak" - Kevin Luo, Student
And since humor is the best medicine for grief, here is a quote from stand-up comedian George Carlin,
"Death is caused by swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time."
Feel free to contact me at kevinwangmail@yahoo.com if you would like to contribute to the collection of quotes.
Mr Jones, you will be missed, and we will remember you forever.
Sincerely,
Student
Kevin Wang
